INTRODUCTION

MAZDA 1991 production RX-7 FD. Compact & lightweight, rotary engine equipped. It is a low & wide sports car. The RX-7 patrol car appeared in 1998. Interior & exterior are same as normal FD's. A two- tone black & white color, patrol lights & sunrise police logo. There are 7 patrol cars serving in Japan's police forces in Chiba, Kyoto and Tochigi regions.

This model was bulit and finished in April, 2000. The inspiration for this model came from the "Initial D" anime series from Japan. It's about different gangs of street racers whose main goal is to capture illegal racing infamy. Competitors use modified Japanese cars such as Nissan Skylines, Mitsubishi Lancers, Honda Civic Hatchbacks, Takahashi brother's Mazda RX-7 FC & FD, etc to try to compete against the main character--Takumi Fujiwara's legendary Toyota Sprinter AE86 in a mountainous setting.

Although entertained by this anime series, the author/builder felt the series lacked a police presence because the racing was illegal after all. Thus, the inspiration for this patrol RX-7 was conceived to keep the peace on "Akina Region" mountain.

BUILDER'S COMMENTS

The kit is curbside; meaning it doesn't contain an engine. This is common in Japanese kits. The overall difficulty of the kit was average with good molding and good fit of various parts. Masking of the window interior and the two-tone exterior did provide a challenge. The kit's instructions provide a masking outline for the car's fornt-end two-tone 'crest' but it has to be cut out for usage. The rest of the car's two-tone along the body can be masked once the 'crest' is laid down.

This model was constructed over a two week period and was a joy to complete.
